About us:
The Mersea Island Film Society was set up in 2008 and we showed our first film in November of that year. Since then we have put on nearly 200 performances including popular classics as well as some of the most recent cinema releases. While many people get their movies on the television now, nothing beats the experience of seeing a great movie on the big screen – which we are now able to offer at the MICA. We also have a cinema-grade Blu-Ray projector and surround sound. Our performances are held on the last Friday of the month throughout the year with a second performance in February and a summer break in August, making 12 shows a year. The MICA bar is open before the show and during the interval. We charge just £22.50 per year per person for membership (£20.00 for MICA members). This works out at just under £2 per show – a fraction of the cost of a visit to the cinema!
